Different Medical Kits
When it comes to being prepared for the injuries and accidents of life, a first aid kit is essential for several reasons. It gives you the essentials needed to handle the smaller injuries and it can even help in bigger injuries when you need to buy some time until you reach a medical professional or emergency room. Let’s take a look at the different medical kits you can create or purchase.
Camping
When looking at the different medical kits, it is important to note that they should be tailored to the specifics of the environment. For instance, you will likely encounter drastically different injuries in the woods than in an office setting. A camping medical kit should have all the same basics of a regular kit such as gauze, bandages, ice packs, and aspirin, but it should also include items such as snake venom suction kits, outdoor allergy medicine, antiseptic wash, and other items related to dealing with the great outdoors.
Sports
When looking at the different medical kits, it is important to remember that every location has its own typical injuries. For example, in a sports first aid kit, the main focus will be on dealing with sprains. While you should definitely keep the other basics on hand like gauze and bandages, you want to make sure there are plenty of slings and wraps for dealing with sprains, as well as extra ice packs for swelling. It is also important to tailor the kit to the sport if necessary such as a medical kit for football including a neck brace or other contact sports related gear.
Trauma
When you want to make sure you are ready for anything life throws your way, a trauma kit is the answer. These are typically used by military personnel but can also be purchased or compiled by civilians looking to stay prepared in the face of a life or death situation. A trauma kit will have many of the same basic items as a regular medical kit, but there will be items geared specifically towards serious and potentially life-threatening injuries. A few staples of this type of kit include items like a blood clotting agent, a tourniquet, items for sutures, and special dressing for wounds designed to stay in place on their own while absorbing more blood.
Auto
An auto medical kit is a first aid kit you keep in your car, but even this kit has different items than a standard first aid kit. This kit will include all the usual suspects like bandages, gauze, and aspirin, but it will also contain items tailored to being on the road such as a heat blanket, hazard signs or flares to put next to the car in the event of roadside trouble, a window breaker and seatbelt cutter device and a small fire extinguisher.
